The Rainbow Family means different things to different people. Different versions of the Native America Prophecies that talk about the coming of the Rainbow Tribe. Included are various interpretations of the Hopi prophecies, as well as other tribes.
Rainbow Family of Living Light Gathering. No official organizers or leaders. No one is in charge. Some might describe gatherings as anarchistic communes. It is longstanding Rainbow Family consensus that nobody has ever, or ever will represent the Rainbow Family.
"The birth of the Rainbow Family is deeply intertwined with other events of the late sixties and early seventies. Some say we got started at Woodstock, some say we got started at the Human Be-in. The easiest thing to say is that the name Rainbow Family got started at the Vortex Biodegradable Festival of Life in Oregon. That led to folks getting together to eventually sponsor the first World Family Gathering in 1972 in Colorado.
